Despite the late-night field romp, I woke up this morning feeling extremely refreshed. No, I didn’t wake up in the field this morning. After our shenanigans, he walked me back to the house and he went back to the cabin. We spent the night apart, which actually felt sort of strange. But I had to wake up at five this morning, so it’s a good thing I’m refreshed.

By six, all the ladies are on their second cup of coffee and we’re all seated at the kitchen table as Nan sits plates of delicious breakfast food in front of us. Cora and I dig in, but Lyla isn’t touching hers.

“Lyla, eat. You have to,” I say.

“I can’t. I’ll throw up for sure,” she says.

“If you don’t eat, you’ll throw up,” Cora says.

Lyla huffs and picks up her fork.

“Drink this. It’ll help settle your nerves,” Nan says, sitting a shot of clear liquid in front of Lyla.

“I can’t start drinking this early,” Lyla protests.

“I’m not saying to keep drinking, baby. Just the one. It’ll knock the edge off,” Nan says.

Lyla takes the shot in her hand and shoots it back without even asking what it is or smelling it. Her entire body shivers as she sets the tiny glass back down. Then she stabs her fork into a piece of French toast and stuffs it into her mouth. Wow. Seems to have done the trick.

By my count, there are no less than fifty-three or so things to remember or do today before this thing kicks off, so I can’t blame her for being nervous. That’s a lot of opportunity for something to be forgotten, go wrong, or ruin her day. Maybe I should have Nan prepare a flask of that stuff, just in case.

“Okay, how about we all shower after this then we head to town for hair and makeup at the salon?” Lyla asks, and because this is no time to protest or even ask questions, Cora and I nod quietly, continuing to eat.

My phones dings and I look down to see an incoming message from Jensen. A smile stretches wide across my lips and Lyla clears her throat to get my attention.

“Who’s that?” she teases.

“Shut up.”

“Is my brother seriously awake this early texting you?” Cora inquires.

“Apparently.” I untuck my hair from behind my ear to cover my blushing cheeks and then open my messages as they shake their heads at me.

Jensen: I can’t believe you guys have to be up this early.

Jensen: Also good morning.

Jensen: Also I really wish we were spooning right now so I could touch your butt.

Despite trying to keep a straight face, a giggle escapes me as I read the last one.

“Smitten,” Lyla says.

“Shush,” I snap.

Me: Why are you up? I also wish we were spooning.

Jensen: Just to text you before you go all no contact for several hours.

Me: I should still be able to text a little.

Jensen: I can’t wait to feel you up in your dress.

Me: You’re so bad.

Jensen: What does that make you?

Me: I guess I’m bad too.
